As we discovered in this article's sister piece, washing machine's are complicated little suckers. If your Beko washing machine is not spinning, it can be quite the headache - that's where we come in. While there are a lot of things that can cause this, the good news is that they're usually rather easy to solve. The bad news, however, is that if it's not an easy fix, it's likely an expensive one.

The most common causes for a Beko washing machine not spinning are poor load distribution, too much soap, a faulty or loose door or latch, the drive belt ,or drainage issues - which are addressed in the linked article above.

Now without further ado, let's get cracking and solve your washing machine's spinning problems.

Beko Washing Machine Fixes: The Basics

Let's start with the easy stuff, shall we? These are all fixes that will take you no more than five minutes to perform, so we'll begin there. We can get into the complicated stuff a bit later - for now, read the easy fixes.

Load Distribution

Over-loaded

Source

This is by far the most common cause of a Beko (or another brand's) washing machine not spinning. In short, your washing machine needs to have weight evenly distributed inside the drum to spin safely. If your clothing gets bunched up or is heavily focused on one side, it's likely you'll just need to adjust them in the machine. Generally, Beko washing machines will automatically sense an unevenly distributed load and stop to prevent damage to the machine. This, in turn, stops your machine from spinning.

To prevent this, avoid washing bulky or absorbent items such as blankets or rugs alone or with a few light items. While you're more than welcome to wash them, it needs to be with something equally as heavy. Additionally, if your clothing tends to bunch up on one side, try rearranging everything inside. You want as close to perfectly even weight distribution as possible.

Too Much Detergent or Soap

Laundry

Oh, the betrayal! The soap that was meant to clean your clothes may have turned on you and actually stopped it from happening. If you use either too much soap or the wrong type, it can cause your machine to stop spinning. So let's talk about that for a second.

The difference between detergent and soap actually exists - and using the wrong kind could cause all sorts of problems. So let's break it down:

  • Detergent is made of synthetic materials and, as a rule, is not biodegradable. There are exceptions to this, but very few. It also comes in many more forms than laundry soap.
  • You can find detergent in powder, liquid, pods, or tablets- and each come with their own pros and cons. But we'll get to that in a moment.
  • Laundry soap is generlly made to be eco-friendly and biodegradable, or marketed as natural. It uses a mixture of fats and oils, though it's not quite as effective as detergent at the moment.

The difference lies in what your machine can use. Some machines can't take laundry soap due to what it's made from. As for detergent, if you improperly measure it (or soap for that matter), it can cause your machine to stop spinning. This is because too much foam will build up, causing the machine to have to stop, attempting to get rid of it. This is most commonly a problem with powder or liquid detergents, as they're harder to measure than tabs or pods.

Water in the Drum

Washing

As mentioned in the article linked at the beginning, we've actually talked about this before, so there won't be too much detail here. In short, if you notice that your machine isn't draining properly, you'll want to take a look at a few parts. Inspect your pump filter and drain hose to make sure they're free of clogs and unbent. If they're clogged, head over to our other article and see what to do. If anything is leaking, rusted, or punctured, replace it.

It's a good rule of thumb to clean your washing machine's drain pump every three months. If you don't, you risk clogs and a machine that won't drain.

Door or Latch

The door or latch to your machine could also be the problem. This is a pretty simple fix (usually). All you need to do is ensure nothing is caught in your washer's door and try again. Should the problem persist, try pressing in the lid slightly - don't use too much force, though. If you lightly press in the door and it works, that's a sign that you need either a repair or replacement latch or door.

With most modern washing machines, door latches are not just a latch. Rather, they're complicated electric circuits that monitor a number of factors at any given time. This means that it's best to just not mess with the lid unless you're extremely confident in your technical skills. If this is your problem, call your manufacturer for support and a replacement.

Technical Failures

There are a massive number of moving parts in washing machines, many of which are connected to a circuit board or two. We won't cover every single issue that could arise, but it's important to note that sometimes electronics are just done for.

Just like us, electronics have a lifespan, and if your machine is old enough to be in middle school, it may just be dead. But let's take a look at one or two issues that may be the cause for your Beko washing machine not spinning - just in case.

Drive Belt or Motor Coupler

Washing

First things first, this repair is not for the layman. If you aren't a certified washer technician, you don't want to try and fix this yourself.

However, you can at the very least pinpoint the problem. The drive belt is the belt that spins your washer's drum. If this goes out of place or breaks, the machine won't spin properly. To check if this is the problem, simply give your washing machine's drum a few rotations.

If the drum spins with no resistance of any form, the drive belt is likely broken or damaged. And this is where calling the professionals comes into play.

To see if your motor coupler is broken, you need to lift the lid during your washing machine's cycle. If the tub stopped spinning, that's a sign that your motor coupler is damaged. Again, call a licensed repair person to help.

Water Pump and Controls

Again, this is not for the layman to fix. There isn't really a way to check for this yourself, though they're good to know. If you notice issues with water draining or not filling in the first place, a common cause could be your water pump.

Otherwise, if your machine isn't responding to commands made with the controls, it may be a problem with the controls or motherboard. Unfortunately, again, you can't fix this at home. Sit down, make a drink, and let the professionals do their job.

Final Thoughts

If your Beko washing machine is not spinning, there are a lot of factors to look into. Begin with ensuring you're using the right soap or detergent in your machine. Next, check that your load is evenly distributed and not bunched up on one side. Your next thing to check should be the lid - does anything change when you press it in slightly? If so, you may need a replacement door or latch.

After this, you're moving on to big problems that really can't be solved by you at home. Whether it's the drive belt, control board, or water pump, these parts are complicated and often expensive.
