You will need some ice in a bowl for this method. Place the ice cubes in front of a table fan but make sure that you place the bowl close to the fan. The fan will blow cooler air after passing over or through the ice.
The fan will also throw the cold, condensed air that forms over the ice in the form of mist towards you, but you must be close to the fan to enjoy the cool air. You can also boost the effect by replacing the ice cubes with two large plastic bottles that you had previously filled with water and frozen. The fan will blow cold air towards you as the air travels between the water bottles.
Most modern fans have both clockwise and counterclockwise settings. The latter pushes air down, creating a chilling effect. Simply activate this option to enjoy a cooler room.

This method works great if you already have box fans installed. If not, just install one box fan facing outwards and one facing inwards (on opposite sides of the room). This method regulates the natural and fresh air, making your room cooler.
You can then activate ceiling or table fans to boost the cross ventilation. You can also do this without fans. Simply open windows on opposite sides of the room and nature will do the rest!

All you need is a piece of cloth or a towel. Dip the fabric in cool water but wring the cloth to make sure it's damp and not dripping. Once done with all the wringing, you can hang the fabric in front of the fan.
This method is quite effective and produces chilly air as the wind is blown through the moist cloth. Once again, if you don't have a fan just hang a damp cloth in front of a window. You will get the same results!
You might have seen these kinds of windows in old architecture. They are large windows with an upper and a lower portion. They were designed to help the air flow through the home.
To make this work, open the upper part of the window on the downwind side of the house (where the outside air pressure is low) and the lower part of the window on the upwind side of the house (where the external air pressure is high).
This method will create a good flow of natural air throughout the home and allow your fan to blow cooler air.
This method works similarly to the previous tip by allowing air to cool in the home first. Your fan can then circulate cooler air as a result.
UV rays and heat tend to pass through glass windows and then stay trapped inside the home, warming the inside sometimes to unbearable temperatures and stuffiness. To avoid this, draw the curtains or the blinds to block sunlight. A ceiling fan will throw relatively cooler air in a dark room.
Exhaust fans remove air from inside the home to the outdoors. They also keep warm air outside and encourages ventilation by building negative air pressure in the room.
Exhaust fans are particularly good at sucking out hot and humid air, especially if the room is small. In turn, they allow fresh air to replace old, warm and stuffy air.

In areas where the summers are dry, a mist fan is invaluable. The appliances blow water through nozzles at high pressure, creating a cooling mist in the air. There are many types of misting fans, so make sure that you get one that suits your summer needs!
Alternatively, you can also use a spray bottle and keep it by your side. Occasionally spray yourself with the water to refresh yourself or the air around you.
There are many ways to use a fan to cool down on a hot day. One of these are bound to make your life easier during summer but don't forget to help your body to cool down by staying hydrated. So, drink plenty of your favourite iced tea or water!
