An electric shower is an important bathroom appliance in the home that offers extra convenience by providing instant hot water in the shower. For you to get the full dose of the benefits that come with owning an electric shower, you need to be keen on performing regular maintenance, which is a straightforward procedure that does not require any special tools and equipment. Remember that proper functioning of any equipment or appliance relies on how frequent and how properly you clean and maintain it and the electric shower is not an exception. You don’t have to wait until you notice a negative change in the performance of your electric shower in order to clean it. AS the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. So, develop the habit of regularly inspecting your electric shower for dirt and limescale and performing the necessary cleaning procedures according to the instructions from the manufacturer.
The following are the basic methods that you can use to clean the electric shower by yourself:
Using an old toothbrush, work your way into the inside of each individual nozzle to dislodge the limescale on the inside. Most of the showerheads have nozzles made of rubber material. This is actually an advantage because it means you can use your fingers to massage individual nozzles and the dirt will come out quite easily.

Vinegar is a great cleaning agent besides being a favourite salad ingredient for many people. Detach the shower head from the wall pipe and submerge it in white vinegar. Let it sit for a couple of hours to allow the limescale and dirt on the showerhead to soften up. Sometimes detaching the showerhead from the wall pipe can be a tedious task. In such a case, you can fill a plastic bag with the vinegar and then wrap it around the showerhead and secure it in place with a rubber band or some tape and leave it for a couple of hours to soften the minerals.
Once the hours have elapsed, remove it from the vinegar, and turn on the tap and let the water run through the showerhead to clean the vinegar. Let the water run for a couple of minutes until you are certain that all the vinegar has been cleaned off. This cleaning procedure has been proven to be the most effective method of descaling the showerhead.
Some showerheads come with an included filter screen that is found at the junction connecting the pump and the head. Cleaning this component requires that you remove the showerhead from the piping because this is the only way you can access it. Don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it sounds. Besides, there is always the user manual to guide you through. Once you have removed the filter screen, use a toothbrush to gently brush off any buildup of dirt from the surface. You can as well hold it under running water until all the dirt has been washed away. Once you are satisfied that the filter screen is clean enough, place it back to its position and reinstall the showerhead following the instructions in the user’s manual.
Avoid using harsh chemicals to descale the showerhead. It is recommended to use white vinegar because it is mild on the material from which most showerheads are made.
