Well, hello there! It's Dale here, and today, we're talking about something a bit out of the ordinary – hedgehog houses. Now, you might be asking yourself, "Why on earth would I need a hedgehog house?" And that's a brilliant question, my friend. Imagine this - you're a tiny hedgehog, braving the elements, looking for a cosy spot to curl up and have a good snooze. Wouldn't a snug, secure, and weather-resistant house be just the ticket? That's where hedgehog houses come into play. And I'm here to help you pick out the best of the best.
Here is a glance at the best Hedgehog Houses before we review them in depth further down:
Consideration Points:
Size: Measuring at 46.8 x 41 x 28 cm, there's ample room for your little mate to wiggle about and create a cosy nest inside.
Entrance: With an entrance size of around 13cm, it's perfectly suited to let your hedgehog friend in while keeping the bigger predators out. Spot on!
Ventilation: This house boasts an adequate ventilation system to keep things fresh and airy, reducing the risk of any unwanted dampness.
Material: Crafted from sturdy FSC wood, this house is both robust and eco-friendly, designed to handle those rough British weather conditions.
Roof: The pitched roof not only adds to the aesthetic but also helps keep the rain out. Additionally, it's removable, which makes cleaning a breeze.
Insulation: Now, this is where it loses a point. There's no added insulation, which might not keep your prickly friend as warm during those icy winter months.
Product Summary:
Say hello to "The Hutch Company Hedgehog House Hibernation Shelter", a real palace for our spiky little mates. This house isn't just good looking; it ticks a lot of boxes in terms of practicality as well.
Firstly, it's spacious. With dimensions of 46.8 x 41 x 28 cm, there's plenty of room for hedgehogs to potter about, make themselves at home, and even accommodate their offspring. The entrance size is bang on target, small enough to keep those pesky predators out, but just right for a hedgehog to squeeze in. A bonus is the effective ventilation system in place, which keeps the air circulating and helps prevent any nasty damp conditions from developing.
The choice of material is a solid win. Made from FSC certified wood, it's a robust, weather-resistant, and environmentally conscious choice. The roof, a pitched design that helps deflect the rain, is detachable, making it easy peasy to clean out when needed. The only slight hiccup is the lack of insulation. While the wooden structure provides some warmth, it might not quite cut it during the colder months, so you might want to add some dry leaves or straw to give a bit of extra warmth.
All in all, The Hutch Company's Hedgehog House is a top-notch choice that promises a comfy and safe home for your prickly garden visitors.
Consideration Points:
Size: With dimensions of 44.6 x 41.4 x 28.3 cm, this house provides plenty of space for a hedgehog to settle down comfortably.
Entrance: Small enough to deter predators, but large enough to let the hedgehogs in without a hitch.
Ventilation: The house has a fantastic ventilation system to keep things airy and prevent dampness – a huge tick in the box.
Material: Made from durable FSC wood, this house is set to brave the elements and stand the test of time, all while being eco-friendly.
Roof: The pitched roof design helps to keep rainwater out. It's also detachable, making it dead easy to clean out the house when necessary.
Insulation: Again, it misses a beat when it comes to insulation. It would have been great to see some built-in insulation to keep the little fellas warm during the winter.
Product Summary:
Let's have a gander at "The Hutch Company Ventilated Predator-Proof Hedgehog House". This little gem not only provides a safe refuge for your spiky visitors but also looks smashing in any garden setting.
Firstly, the size is just right, measuring 44.6 x 41.4 x 28.3 cm. That's plenty of room for your hedgehog to make itself at home. The entrance is spot on, at approximately 13cm. Small enough to deter predators, but not too small to obstruct our little friends. The ventilation system is top-notch, allowing for ample air circulation, which helps keep dampness at bay - critical for the health of our hedgehogs.
In terms of material, this house is a solid win. Crafted from durable FSC certified wood, it's sturdy, weather-resistant, and ticks the environmental responsibility box. The pitched, detachable roof is a great touch, making the house easy to clean while also keeping the rainwater out. The only minor setback is the lack of insulation. While the wood does offer some natural insulation, it might not be sufficient during the colder months. So you might want to add some straw or dry leaves for extra warmth.
Overall, The Hutch Company's Ventilated Predator-Proof Hedgehog House is a fantastic choice. Providing a safe, cosy, and well-ventilated space for your garden's prickly inhabitants, this house is well worth considering.

"Des res for hogs"
"Bought this following YouTube reviews, I have a good quality hedgehog house already but this is definitely the best out there. Well made, plenty of room for hogs. Yes it is expensive for a hedgehog house but I believe it will last many years. Amazon pay offer was a factor when choosing (easier to justify the outlay for another hog house) I am hoping to have resident hog in situ shortly. Definitely happy to recommend."

Instructions suggested to move on if hadn’t been found by hedgehogs after 2 years. Three of our hedgehogs found ours within 2 hours of putting it out. By night 2 we had a resident hog. Consideration Points:
Size: The Selections Hedgehog House measures approximately 34 x 17 x 19 cm, providing a cosy and secure space for our garden pals. A perfect little hideaway.
Entrance: It has a suitably sized entrance, with a short tunnel, which should keep the predators at bay while letting our spiky guests waltz right in.
Ventilation: A bit like some of our previous contenders, this one could do with improved ventilation. After all, a bit of fresh air never did anyone any harm.
Material: The house is constructed from untreated wood, providing a sturdy, natural environment for our hedgehogs. They do prefer their homes au naturel.
Roof: The roof is an interesting feature here. It's covered with bark to give it a lovely natural aesthetic, but it's not removable, making cleaning a bit more of a task.
Insulation: Alas, the Selections model doesn't provide any extra insulation. On those frosty winter nights, this might not be the cosiest place for a hedgehog to curl up.
Product Summary:
Let's dive deeper into the Selections Wooden Hedgehog House with Bark Roof. With a size that provides a secure and snug space, it certainly offers a comfortable retreat for our prickly friends. The entrance is just right – wide enough for our hedgehogs, but not too inviting for unwanted visitors.
But there's a snag when it comes to ventilation. More airflow would be a plus, providing a healthier environment for our guests. The house is made from untreated wood, giving it a natural and durable appeal, just how our garden pals like it. The roof, though, is a bit of a mixed bag. The bark covering gives it a lovely natural look, but the fact it isn't removable could make cleaning a tad tricky. And here's the rub: the lack of additional insulation. In colder climates, this could mean a chillier stay for our hedgehogs.
In conclusion, the Selections Wooden Hedgehog House with Bark Roof is a charming choice with a natural aesthetic, but might fall short in the cosiness department during colder months.

Consideration Points:
Size: At 30 x 30 x 20.5 cm, this hedgehog house is a cosy abode, offering just the right space for a single hedgehog to snuggle in.
Entrance: The entrance is designed to be easily accessible by a hedgehog while being restrictive to larger predators.
Ventilation: A drawback seems to be the lack of a proper ventilation system, which could potentially lead to a damp environment inside.
Material: This hedgehog house is made of solid wood, ensuring durability and a natural look that blends well in a garden setting.
Roof: The roof is slanted to aid water runoff and it is also detachable, which simplifies the cleaning process.
Insulation: Unfortunately, the house doesn't come with any additional insulation, which might leave it a tad chilly during colder weather.
Product Summary:
Introducing the "Something Different Wooden Hedgehog House", a charming and snug little home for your hedgehog visitors. This model scores well in terms of size, material and roof design, but falls a bit short when it comes to ventilation and insulation.
The size of this house is a snug 30 x 30 x 20.5 cm, making it a cosy and comfortable abode for a single hedgehog. Just enough room for our prickly friend to make itself at home. The entrance has been thoughtfully designed to allow easy access for hedgehogs while keeping larger predators at bay.
Unfortunately, the house seems to lack a dedicated ventilation system. This is something you might want to bear in mind as it could potentially lead to a damp environment inside the house. On the plus side, the material used is a win. The house is made of solid wood, which ensures durability and a natural look that blends well into a garden setting. The slanted roof is another great feature. It's designed to aid water runoff, which helps to keep the interior dry. Additionally, the roof is detachable, simplifying the cleaning process.
Overall, the Something Different Wooden Hedgehog House is a charming and solid choice with some fantastic features. However, a bit of improvement on ventilation and insulation, and it could become the dream home for any garden hedgehog.
Consideration Points:
Size: With dimensions of approximately 41.5L x 37W x 24.5H, the Wildlife World House provides an ample, comfy space for our little spiky mates.
Entrance: A suitable entrance size with a protective tunnel, just what we need to keep the baddies out and our hedgehogs safe.
Ventilation: A breath of fresh air here – this model's got decent ventilation, helping our hedgehog chums breathe easy.
Material: Made from durable FSC certified timber and recycled plastic, it's a win-win situation – sturdy and eco-friendly, which we all appreciate.
Roof: The roof here is not only waterproof but also hinged, making for easy cleaning and maintenance.
Insulation: Unfortunately, there's no extra insulation here, which could make those winter nights a bit nippy for our garden friends.
Product Summary:
Time to look closer at the Wildlife World Hedgehog House in Olive Green. Its size offers plenty of room for our hedgehog buddies, making it a welcoming sanctuary. The entrance hits the mark too – just the right size to keep unwanted visitors out while making it an open door for our prickly pals. Ventilation is a plus here. Our hedgehog friends can enjoy a good dose of fresh air without sacrificing their comfort.
Material-wise, it's a thumbs up. Crafted from durable FSC certified timber and recycled plastic, it's a model that's both sturdy and mindful of our environment. Now that's something we can all get behind. The roof, waterproof and hinged, makes cleaning a doddle. A smart solution for easy maintenance.
But, there's a little hiccup. The lack of insulation could mean a chillier stay for our hedgehogs on those cold winter nights. To sum up, the Wildlife World Hedgehog House in Olive Green offers some strong features and environmentally friendly materials, but might not be the warmest option in the colder months.
Consideration Points:
Size: The dimensions of this house, 39.5 x 39.1 x 20.3 cm, offer generous space for a hedgehog to move about and nest comfortably.
Ventilation: This model doesn't seem to have any specific ventilation system. This could potentially lead to dampness and condensation, not the best conditions for our prickly friends.
Material: Made from quality, durable wood, this house is designed to endure the British weather, offering a long-lasting abode for the hedgehogs.
Roof: The slanted roof helps to keep the rain out, and the fact it's detachable makes cleaning the house a walk in the park.
Insulation: Unfortunately, there's no added insulation, which means it might not be as warm as one would wish during the colder months.
Product Summary:
Meet the "URBNLIVING Large Wooden Hedgehog House", a spacious and sturdy retreat for our spiky visitors. This one scores high on size and material but could do a bit better on ventilation and insulation. The size is a definite plus, measuring a generous 39.5 x 39.1 x 20.3 cm. That's plenty of space for a hedgehog to roam about and settle in. The entrance hits the nail on the head.
However, there seems to be a lack of a dedicated ventilation system. Good airflow is important to keep the living conditions healthy and prevent dampness, so that's a bit of a miss. On the upside, the material is top-notch. Crafted from durable wood, this house is built to brave the elements and offer a lasting home to the garden's spiky inhabitants. The slanted, removable roof is a practical feature, facilitating easy cleaning while protecting the house from rainfall. Insulation is the other hiccup here. There's no built-in insulation, so you might want to consider adding some straw or dry leaves for extra warmth during winter.
All in all, the URBNLIVING Large Wooden Hedgehog House is a solid choice, providing a spacious and robust refuge for your garden's hedgehogs. A bit of an improvement on ventilation and insulation.

Firstly, these top-notch hedgehog houses provide a safe haven for our spiky friends from predators. Cats, dogs, foxes – you name it, they're all a threat. A well-designed hedgehog house offers a secure hideaway that these bigger creatures can't penetrate.
Secondly, consider the weather. The British weather isn't always kind, is it? A high-quality hedgehog house is weather-proof, providing a dry, warm place for hedgehogs to hibernate during the winter and a cool refuge during those rare hot summer days.
Lastly, the best hedgehog houses are built with materials that are safe for hedgehogs and the environment. Some alternatives use treated wood or metals that can be harmful. The best options use untreated, sustainably sourced wood – safe for hedgehogs and Mother Nature alike.
Remember, our spiky friends deserve the best, don't they? So, take your time to pick the best hedgehog house, and give them a cosy place they can call home. And who knows, you might just make a new prickly friend in your garden. Isn't that a delightful thought?
