The problem of a washer dryer not working properly is somewhat common across all the brands. Whether yours is a high-end model or it’s just a budget tumble dryer to get you going, you are bound to encounter this particular problem at least once in the dryer’s lifetime. Luckily, it is nothing you cannot fix.
If you are handy with tools and you are good at following DIY instructions, then you are good to go because that is all it takes to fix a washer dryer that is not drying. In this article, we shall be sharing some of the most common tips that you can apply to fix your problematic clothes dryer. Pay attention!
Before we get into the solutions, it is important that we first familiarize ourselves with the problem causes of a malfunctioning clothes dryer. There are two major reasons why your washer dryer would refuse to dry clothes. The first one is a dirty lint filter trap and the second one is a clogged vent. Now, let us look at each of these problems individually with the hope that we shall come up with a substantive solution at the end.
The lint filter can actually get dirty. It is surprising that so many people out there have no idea that the lint trap could get dirty. As a result, a significant number of these people have neglected the duty of cleaning it before and after each use. If you make it a habit to constantly clean your washer dryer, then you will have reduced the chances of it becoming faulty. Note that it is possible to clean the lint trap and still experience the same problem. If this is the case, then it means that your washer dryer is actually having a different problem.
When the vent in your clothes dryer is clogged, you are going to experience a problem whereby the dryer feels dry but it takes considerably long time for your clothes to dry. The explanation for this is that the clogged vent traps excess hot air in the dryer’s drum but the rate of circulation is too low to suffice the drying process. If this is the actual case, then you should be worried because other than your clothes taking forever to dry, they will also be running the risk of getting damaged by the excess heat. Furthermore, in rare cases, this could escalate into a fire. However, it is a problem that can be fixed with simple DIY tools and procedures.
The first problem of a dirty lint filter can be solved by simply observing the cleaning routine for your washer dryer. This involves cleaning it up before you use it and doing the same after use. By doing this, you will be preventing dirt from accumulating on the dryer’s lint filter trap.
For the second problem of a clogged vent, the solution is a bit involving. First, you need to clean the vent from outside the house with a straightened clothes hanger to make sure that the flow of air is uninterrupted.
Sometimes the only issue causing the problem could be dirt in the vent, in which case cleaning it up will solve everything.
If this step does not solve the problem, then you might need to check the duct to see if there are any kinks or sags and straighten them up.
Sometimes the problem could be way too deep inside the duct that you may need to disconnect the entire duct from the dryer. Don’t worry, it’s not that hard. Just unscrew it and use a flashlight to locate any blockage that may be inside then shake it out. Alternatively, you can run a wadded cloth through the duct. Other than a blockage, the other problem could be a damaged duct, in which case you will need to replace it altogether.
The problem of a washer dryer not drying clothes is a common one and so are its solutions. A simple DIY fix will help you get your dryer back to its functional state without costing you a dime.
